One of the most rewarding parts of being a photographer is working with fellow artists. There’s something special about working with people who understand the power of visual storytelling, and Shannon and Nick are no exception. As talented hairstylists and owners of their own salon in Ottawa, they know all about aesthetics, style, and creative expression. So when they booked a session during my couple’s portrait promo, I knew it was going to be something unique.
Unlike traditional couple’s portraits that focus on connection and emotion, Shannon and Nick wanted a high-fashion, editorial feel—strong poses, striking compositions, and a focus on style rather than sentimentality. This was a challenge for me, as I naturally gravitate toward capturing raw emotion, but I was excited to push my creative boundaries.
To complement their sleek and stylish vision, Gen from Waring Makeup created flawless, polished makeup looks that elevated the final images. Her artistry added the perfect finishing touch, ensuring Shannon looked effortlessly camera-ready.
We approached the session with a modern, minimalist vision, using lighting and angles to highlight their impeccable style. Their chemistry translated effortlessly into the images, even without overt emotion—there was a quiet confidence in the way they moved together, a natural synchronicity that made each shot feel effortlessly cool.
Stepping outside my usual approach made this session an exciting creative exercise, and I’m thrilled with the results. More importantly, Shannon and Nick loved their portraits, which is always my ultimate goal.
