20 Nov A solo visit to Canadian Agricultural Museum
I don’t know about you but I sometimes hesitate to go on adventures by myself. I think it’s because of all the unknowns that could happen and the very good chance I’ll get lost. I can admit I have the worst sense of directions (it’s almost nonexistent). I have countless embarrassing encounters of me going the wrong direction or even into the wrong car. Anyways, I decided this summer I’m gonna make the most out of it so I went to the Canadian Agricultural and Food Museum by myself. I was pretty confident I couldn’t get lost and as a result had the time of my life. I think what it boils down to is that I really enjoy my own company. It’s nice to move to where the action is instead of when you are with someone else you also have to care about what they want to do make it a mutually enjoyable experience. I felt like a free range chicken going wherever I wanted and popping into the different animal areas at my own leisure.
My all time favourite animal are pigs which is the real reason I love this place so much! I was lucky to be completely alone with the pigs so we had some good chats and I captured their photos. They are so cute!
And of course, you got to see the cows! Cows are so awesome! I fall in love with them more and more each day. That may sound weird living in a city where the interactions with cows are usually very limited. But in this day and age there is no excuse. You show the slightest interest in anything your internet will find ways to show you more. My Instagram is full of cow videos and it makes me want to go on a worlds tour around the world just to see all these cows. Don’t get me started on highland cows. I even came up with some cute tattoos with cows. It’s becoming a bit much. Anyways, here’s some photos of the cows I saw.
It started pouring out of nowhere. There definitely were signs of the rain but the weather channel said not to worry and so I believed them. I luckily was just near the goat barn so I went and hung out with the goats and sheep. There was some rebellion going on because the goats were all making noises. I couldn’t stop laughing because the noises they were making were ridiculous. Their farmer came in and the atmosphere when crazy. He was like Justin Beiber in a crowd of your girl fans. He was the king. They were getting on the fences to get closer to him and I guess just out of excitement. Once the food was given it was quiet. Nothing else in the world mattered other than the food. Isn’t that the truth after a good episode of hunger.
This horse! I love this horse! Normally I’m not a big horse girl because I simply don’t have enough room left with my attention on pigs and cows. But this horse was funny. I went out to see the horses after the rain and caught them coming out of their stable which was cool. But the black horse has some spunk. He gives himself a good roll around on the ground and comes back and gives me this face of “did you like that?” expression of emotion. Kind of like how kids give you that look after they did something naughty. I love when you see characteristics of animals. Which tells me this horse is intelligent and has a good sense of humour. I had a 10 minutes with these horses so that’s a short amount of time for an animal to warm up to you.
There were some sheep, goats, and alpaca outside. They were mostly napping and trying to stay cool.
I highly recommend checking out the Canadian Agricultural and Food Museum, also know as the experimental farm. If you have been living in Ottawa for a long time you might have been here before but come back for a visit. It’s my favourite places in Ottawa. There’s the Arboretum right beside it and I pretty much live there because it’s a beautiful spot for any type of portraits.
