The world needs more ladies like Michelle. She’s fun, compassionate, stylish, and empowering. What attracted me to Michelle and what made me want to photograph her was her confidence. Being around people like her makes you feel good, lighter and happy. She is all about living the healthiest life you can live, whether that is mentally or physically. She’s a big supporter of women embracing their ageing beauty whether it’s the wrinkles you get from smiling to the silver in your hair. I personally love the fact that many women have let their hair grow grey due to COVID restrictions and embracing how beautiful it actually looks.

I chatted with Michelle on the phone before our session. I was inspired for her love of old Hollywood Glamour and decided this was the perfect creative direction for our shoot. She hadn’t been professionally photographed since her wedding but was excited for the adventure.

Here’s Michelle’s before and after shots! I had the amazing makeup and hair stylist, Fatima, to doll her up. We used vintage-inspired lashes by Laash lashes to compliment the look.

The dress Michelle wore for this session was bought at a thrift store. My mother in law, Ruth, is one stylish lady and saw this dress and bought it for me. I am so happy I finally got to use it! It fit Michelle perfectly. We also played with faux fur to add some more glamour to the photo. This shoot was so much fun.

I used a fabric backdrop to go with the 1950’s vibes. Later I used an olive green and a grey paper backdrop because I found that the colours suited the feeling I was going for. I do a lot of planning before each shoot so I had a general idea of what I was wanting to do, but there is always room for improvising.
